At the end of the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 7), Jesus tells the parable of the wise and foolish builders, leaving his listeners with a challenge: Will you put the words that you’ve heard into practice?
The question remains today: Will we hear the word God wants to speak to us (Awareness) and obey by putting it into practice (Application)?
To fully release potential in ourselves, others, and the environments in which we’re called to lead, we must aim for the mature expression of both high Awareness and high Application.
The Concept leader’s journey of Incarnation involves active engagement that gets them out of their head, and living into the concepts they love to reflect on.
Instinct leaders...need to slow down, write things down, and take people with them. This is the journey of Intentionality—a contemplative and prayerful experience, which is a stretch for the natural activist.

Use the simple checklist below to reflect on your own leadership. These will help you to discern whether you need to go on a journey of Incarnation (concept leaders) or Intentionality (instinct leaders), to be able to fully release potential in ourselves, others, and the environments in which we’re called to lead.

  • Do you identify as a Concept leader (ideas & insight), an Instinct leader (activity) or a Status Quo leader (passenger / survival)?

  • How might your orgnaization change if every leader was a Mature leader?

  • What one or two steps could you make as you begin your journey towards high awareness AND high application?

  • Who can help you on this journey (community & accountability)?
